An example task
An excerpt from a real sample datasheet. The model gets text like this and nothing else: no schematic, no circuit, no hints.
Sample part
9 V supply · 2 inputs · 3 outputs · 2 test points
Switching characteristic
With in1 held low, in2 falls from 8.5 V. out3 falls from about 8.6 V to 0.07 V.
| Parameter | Temp. | Min | Typ | Max | Unit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Delay, in2 edge to out3 = 1.80 V | −40 °C | 22.92 | µs | ||
| 25 °C | 16.74 | 18.51 | 20.89 | µs | |
| 85 °C | 14.49 | µs |
Parts and budget
- Allowed parts
- 2N3904, 2N3906, 2N7000, BS250P, 1N4148, 1N5231B, E96 and E12 resistors and capacitors
- Budget
- At most 68 parts
What the model has to do
- Choose a circuit architecture. Nothing in the datasheet says what it should be.
- Pick parts and values from the allowed list, within the budget.
- Simulate and revise until every line of the datasheet holds at −40, 25 and 85 °C.
The grader then checks this delay and every other line of the full datasheet. The full datasheet is much longer than this excerpt.
